Cottonland Gemini nominated

2006 - Director/ Writer/ Co-Composer, Soundtrack

Just six months after its Premiere at the HotDocs Film Festival in Toronto, Nance's directorial debut, the NFB documentary film, Cottonland has already won three awards. The thought provoking and visually powerful film explores the 'society of dependence' created by industry in small towns in Cape Breton, through the eyes of ex-prescription drug addict, Eddie Buchanan. As well, Ackerman collaborated with her partner, Jamie Alcorn, to create the lyrically potent soundtrack (heartstringproductions.ca).

Winning Best Atlantic Documentary, Best Director and Best Cinematographer (Alain Dupras) accolades, this film is only the beginning of Ackerman's directing career.

The film also garnered Gemini Nominations including Best Social Documentary, Best Direction in a Documentary, Best Soundtrack in a Documentary.
